What Zinfandel was meant to taste like. The color is still youngish and purple with medium to full body in the glass. Dark stonefruit notes and some cigar-box notes nicely balance the intense fruitiness. Minimally tannic. Drinking perfectly now; probably has a couple more good years left in it.

Everything a Zinfandel should be but so rarely is! Lean, intense opening, big mid-palate with berry and plum notes harmonized with smooth tannin, and a very long finish with a touch of cinnamon and clove.

Very deep rube colour. Huge berry nose. Front end flavours of raspberry, plum, smoke, spices. Medium to full body, full palate - dry. Full tannins, nicely balanced.

Lots of blackberries, yet with a somewhat thin profile. A big wallop of alcohol just to make sure you're awake, and the heat is a bit searing on the finish. Not a noteworthy bottle; there just isn't enough fruit to balance the alcohol.

Even though the word "Cake" is in it's title, there's nothing sweet about it... except for that it's sah-weeeeeeeeeeet. Popped this bottle because we were having bread pudding with Thanksgiving dinner dessert. And I figured, "bread goes with bread" ... right? Well, listen here. I was right. It was good. And I'm happy I did it. Cakebread Zin isn't normally considered a dessert wine, but for me, well... it is now, as long as you enjoy spicy, rich, figgy gulp of awesome. 9/10

Deep purple color, rich characteristic nose of Zin with rich spice and berry notes. A bit tight at first but opened nicely within 45 minutes. A velvety soft start with plenty of up front fruit. A short finish that does not linger...possibly a bit young yet? Rich berry and forest fruit on the mid pallet, a nice spice level but not overdone despite the high alcohol content. I would leave this in the cellar another 6-12 months before trying again.

Opened for a few hours. Medium appearance purple color lightening to ruby. Aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and secondary candied fruit notes. Hits the palate with black currant, blueberry, and cocoa/vanilla oak notes. Good acid, and drinks with nice silky tea notes. Finishes with a nice grip of acid, round fine tannins, just a little bit of heat from the alcohol (15.6%), and notes of black pepper. This is a pretty big and high ABV Zin; but it's not stewed, overripe, or jammy. It ends up being well integrated and balanced. Very enjoyable.

50+4+12+16+7 Deep inky ruby. Not much nose. Copious blackberry and baking spices with a lush mouthfeel and balanced acids. Nice finish of blackberry pie and nutmeg.

Sadly, past its prime.
I will look for more recent vintages; this was fantastic until right about now.

Very nice wine. Nice dark berry flavor without being too fruity. Dark and smokey, this wine was complex and great with food.
