Popped at room temp. Odd walnut / light caramel color. Nose of walnut, light caramel. Medium sweetness on the palate. What a wonderful 100% Marsanne desert wine that very few even know exists. . . . . EG @chapoutier @marsanne @rhone @vindepaille

1996 M. CHAPOUTIER VIN de PAILLE BLANC HERMITAGE- 1 of 2,500 375ml bottles released; 100% Marsanne; such a great bring; the maple colour was reflected not only in the taste profile, but the texture; joining in was honeyed almond butter, coffee, caramel, butterscotch and marmalade; this is pretty intense, concentrated juice and a little sip did me just fine.

Euro Themed Lunch - Rhones (Donato Enoteca, Redwood City, CA): Cloudy and no so attractive gray/brown color. Nice nose. Weird palate. This was quite interesting despite the fairly obvious flaw. Thankfully, we also had a chance to taste the '03 at the same time and that one was fabulous!

Nose was intense with its dried fruits, figs, apricots, walnut, wax, notes of caramel, raisins. Clean, focused, voluminous and complex. In the mouth it was quite powerfull, rich and onctuous in the first palate and with refreshing acidity giving nice balance even in the low side. Super concentration and length.

Chapoutier verticale at St John (London): We had 2 bottles of those, one of them was oxidised and completely shot, the other was showing beautifully. A truly great wine when in good condition.

Pausing for the Cause Fundraiser and Dinner (Galit - Chicago IL): From 375 ml bottle. Sweet without anything cloying, this was easy to enjoy with its earthy peach melba notes.

Ambra scuro. Bergamotto candito, zenzero, spezie, una nota delicatamente volatile, creme brûlé, vulcanizzazione, frutti bianchi. Bocca intensa, scura, rigorosa, lunga

The Northern Rhone Dinner (Chave, Jaboulet, Chapoutier, Rostaing, Tardieu Laurent) (Patrick's House): Tough luck with the whites tonight; heavily oxidized, brown in colour, sherry on the nose. Dumped.
