2nd of 2, pnp but drunk over 3 days, perfect cork and level - previous bottle VF, this one starting to show signs of maturity, darker, very rich, if not particularly sweet, apricot, spice, oily, almost granular, very long, persistent and concentrated, not a bit like Sylvaner (cat's piss and gooseberry) and all the better for it, not a food wine and drunk happily as an aperitif, not quite the weight and unctuosity of an SGN so probably best to drink over next 3 years. F (17.5).

January birthday craziness (Chicago, IL): 15% abv! The alcohol was so prominent here that I couldn't figure out much about this wine, except that I really didn't like it...

Not corked like the last one, but totally poo-poo'd at the party for being 15%ABV. Apricot and full. im not denying this is quite the top heavy wine, but this should be treated as dry Auslese Sylvaner, maybe it just needs more time. Doubtfully.

Prime form tonight for the young Sylvaner! It has appeared to have backed off on the sweetness while maintaining the texture and weight it has always had, which puts it in an awesome spot. Really good with 'Zucci for lunch and the bottle disappeared much quicker than it ever has at the WWC.
Damn, I'm down to one bottle left...time to rebuy as this thing promises to be outstanding when aged, if the 1998 is any indication.

enticing nose of chocolate mint. botrytis in the nose, but a dry suggestion. dried flowers and quite a reference to a textural wine. intense aromatics showing precise laser of gravel. candied pear and apple fruits. i haven't even tasted this yet. such weight on the palate. quite a drier expression today than i remember previously. finish draws out in cinnamon sugar cookie.

Smells of noble rot but man is the palate heavy and full. Woa. Stands up this Beaucastel blanc nicely. We will see where it goes. Cardomon and anise on the very lengthy finish.

Sweet apricot and mandarin orange on the nose. Probably the densest fruit of any white wine I've ever had. The nose carries the same fruits through into the palate. So juicy that I can almost expect to chew wedges of those mandarin oranges. Enough acid to keep it from being ponderous on the palate, but still not quite in step with the fruit...always half a step forward or back, but should be really good when they begin to match strides. If this ages like the '98 Albert Seltz sylvaner I tasted, it'll be awesome in about 2015-16.
Note: A little too overpowering for the fish and rice dish I drank it with, despite the lemon butter sauce (with a touch of the sylvaner) over the top.

honied orange blossom on the nose. sylvaner tends to be high acid and low on fruit and low aromatics. this is a different animal. there is quite the express of wax on the nose. ben calls out chenin texuture. this is dry but seeming RS, but dry. a monster on the palate. insane ripeness brings forth the fruit and the florals. botrytis? I'd suspect some utilization. quite the wine.

I've waited long enough! When I had it in 2010, my note said to try it again in 2015/2016. Well, it's February 2016 and here it is!
That texture! That body! Clove-studded orange, amber honey, orange marmalade...A panty-dropper of a wine. Must. Find. More.

Too bad it's corked, because underneath it smells like Chenin Blanc. Apricot jam on a dry frame. The color of canned peach juice.

Very perfumed but its the heavy, oily body that is most noticeable. Does it need food?
