  • Medium garnett color, polished.
Baking spices, fruit custard tart, and a bit syrupy on the nose.
A plum, strawberry and black raspberry liqueur mouth feel. Secondary notes of sassafras, rhubarb, blood orange and tree bark.
Quite a complex Zin where age has brought nuances that did not exist 5 to 10 years ago. Well done.

  • Fading but stil lhas some life, cherries and slight tannin, we decanted and I came home to half a decanter 4 hours later. Still very drinkable. No reason to wait any longer.

  • Cloudy with moderate + depth of color, low to moderate amount of extract at the red rim. On the nose slightly sour mixed red berry fruit equal to a dill'ish vanilla new oak barrique note... minimal minerality. On the palate low acidity, a wide, slightly sour midpalate with a rather rough transition into a slightly dried, ripe, poorly integrated, oak > grape tannin finish. Moderate + alcohol. A little on the fleshy side balance wise, adequate length and intensity, low to moderate complexity. Really not a strong wine finesse-wise with a lot of textural issues on the mid and end palate. Hard to think this wine was meant to age this long in its defense... food might help distract one from the structural weaknesses a bit.

  • Excellent example of Ridge's fruit driven style. Intense fruit balanced with solid acid and structure. The fruit was more forward with the intense chocolate dessert, the structure and subtlety was more apparent with the venison.

  • Opened and consumed...solid zin that has lost is fruit as they do with this age but not developed the additional complexity that the best of zins do as they age...enjoyable for a week night meal but nothing special...would drink up

  • I had been hesitating opening this as the last bottle appeared way past it's prime, this time we drank it straight from the bottle without decanting, and it still had life - It was medium purple, very thin at the rim, with sweet plum nose, a bit hot on the palate, but very smooth and sweet, enjoyed it very much RIP (88 Points).

  • This was a gift a few weeks ago. The label notes, dated 10/2001, say this will be at its fullest over the next five to six years. We concur. This wine should be openWe opened and enjoyed now.

Beautiful color, with big fruitiness, especially cherry. Nicely balanced, with a bit of an edge to remind you your drinking something significant.

  • Teetering on the brink of the cliff, this needs to be drunk now. In another 6 months, I bet this is a goner. Nicely aged, almost claret-like in its dotage, this is a nice wine that reminds me of someone's gentle grandmother who was quite a wild & crazy girl in her youth.

  • Deep dark red/garnet. Fruit still stands out, a mix of berries and dark indistinct fruit. Smooth transition between fruit, oak and tannins, good body, moderate finish, just a hint of the alcohol. Really enjoyed this wine; I don't drink zin as much as I used to.
