1976 Bordeaux B PL?

Green, rustic and with more tartness than sweet in the fruit, the medium-bodied wine is clearly drying out and needs to be consumed sooner than later before the last remnants of the red currants and cranberry fade any further.

Well preserved 1976 Chateau Baron de Pichon Longueville. Above shoulder fill.
I managed to pull out the cork whole. A bit of black growth on the exterior side of the cork, but did not permeate through.
On open: scent of intense raisin, ripe blueberry, and some petroleum fumes.
I let it sit 5m before pouring. Petroleum burned off.
Kind of a deep garnet color, little bit of brown rust, but not enough to call it tawny. One of the most vigorous colors of the older wines I've opened.
Taste: raisin, strawberry, fading to tangy cherry Sweet tarts, with a finish of cedar becoming fresh hot jalapeno. Keeps you coming back for more. Best of the 1970s wines I've tried, which are only a few.

A remarkable surprise! The capsule was a mess, welded down by what looked like a mold on the top of the cork. Removed with a monopol but still broke in two. I unfortunately pushed the lower 1/3 into the bottle and left it there to slow ox rather than decant for about 4 hours. Cork itself looked otherwise great and a quick whiff/taste let me know this was going to surpass expectations.
Tertiary notes of antique store and sandalwood. The real plot twist was a rather generous amount of cherry fruit here. Again beating expectations with a lack of metallic notes that I’ve had on other PB from the 70s. This Winebid bottle was a total win.
Outstanding wine for the vintage. 1976 is a fair year but this bottle (0.75l) was outstanding. Opened one hour before tasting. Wine opened very quickly. Fruit still very strong. Pichon baron is definitely one of the strongest 2eme Cru.

From .375. Top of cork had mold but pulled out cleanly with ah-so. Brick red. Hint of cigar box and plum on nose. Subtle, smooth palate. Certainly last days for this half bottle but still enjoyable. From .375!

Brick red but still a very deep dark core. A somewhat subdued nose of cigar box, plums, and apple pie. Plush, ripe and very much alive palate. Some slightly baked/raisiny character to the fruit, but hey, there's still fruit after 39 years so I'm not complaining. Overall much better than I expected. (92 Very good wine)

Old Bordeaux Dinner (Hong Kong Country Club, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): High neck fill. Lovely jewelled, bright translucent ruby colour. Nose is slightly old faded velvet furniture, fully mature, autumnal plums.....but early autumn. Palate is beautifully elegant and well-defined, classic Pauillac pencil shavings and pencil lead. It still has very good structured tannins. Some length.

Just iron - no fruit nor tertiary aromas. Lacking everything. Cork was completely soaked...

From .375. Cork was partially saturated, but pulled out cleanly. Brick red. Smooth and balanced. Some plum on palate. Not at all tired.
