Not a typical Cali Chard, thank God. Nice Chard flavor without the overbearing, in-your-face, oak and malolactic notes. Not as crisp as a white Burg but still very nice match to grilled swordfish with mango and raisin chutney.

This threw me for a loop as well. The nose on this reminded me of a white Burgundy with some pear, lime and apple. Had a nice floral element and detected some wood but definitely not overpowering. When I first tasted this I got some grapefruit, lemon and tangerine, which lead me to believe it was a Sauvignon Blanc from France. After some time I started to get some vanilla and a nutty character. I guessed a 2009 White Burgundy.

Green apple, honeydew melon, pear, vanilla, and lemon. Fruit initially on the mid-palate, transitioning to butter flavors and oaky tannins. Noted the wine's fruitiness dissipates as the bottle warms. Long creamy finish. Paired well with Chicken Normandy.

Initially interesting while still chilled, with nice pineapple (fresh and dried) aromas and a smooth palate. The first shortcoming is a feel of slightly diluted taste, which could almost be interpreted as elegant. But soon, as it warms up, it takes a quite unpleasant alcoholic and medical turn, ruining an already delicate balance. Avoid alone or with delicate food - pairing with exotic or spicy meal will likely hide this aspect and put its fruit and smoothness forward successfully. Not entirely bad, but I would not recommend this to friends.

Tasted after Rodney Strong Chalk Hill Reserve 2008. Same bright gold in the glass, but a far more pronounced nose than the 2008. 2007 was overall rated as a much better and more consistent vintage and it is definitely visible here. The palate is made up of creamy lemon and peach notes, with hints of some green (lemongrass) and ginger spice. The finish is all toasty oak with lots of rich vanilla. The alcohol, once again, stands out as being a little too big for my white wine tastes (14.5%), but if you like your Chardonnay stamped with a California signature, this is a wine for you.

Bright straw yellow in the glass, with aromas of citrus, stone fruits, and honeysuckle. Lemon meringue, peach pit, and melon flavors are layered with vanilla bean and roasted nuts on the palate. Big and rich, though bright acidity provides a nice crisp balance. 14.3% alcohol.

The alcohol on this wine is slightly less intrusive than the isopropyl alcohol in Listerine. I had no idea that yeast existed that could handle pushing Chardonnay based wine past 15 percent, much less 15.5 percent. What lies behind this formidible layer of heat is a rich mouthfull of vanillin and butter, reminiscient of Miner chardonnay. That is, to say that this wine is indeed not only too alcoholic for my liking but also far, far to masked and covered up in the swaddling and plush clothing of an oak barrel. No way I touch this wine again.
Tour - Napa / Sonoma 2009; 8/25/2009-8/29/2009 (Napa / Sonoma, CA): Not worth consideration. 2007 must not be a good year for their Chardonnays - this is the third one tasted that was not very good. Taste no butter - no complexity or depth. 13 months in French oak. $40 / bottle - extremely over priced. Tasted at Rodney Strong winery on Napa / Sonoma trip. $5 for 4 tastings.

Good, but not great. Citrus lemon nose, dry, lemon on the palate.

Wonderful texture but a touch flat. Perhaps becoming overdone. Need to try again
