  • Upon opening, cork pretty much stayed in tact, which was a surprise given the age of this. Decanted and left for an hour initially, brown tinges, but subtle berry and cigar tones on the nose. Far less sendiment than expected too. Could tell this was going to be great and just required some time to open up.

Amazing the changes over the next 90 mins, the brown edges disappearing to reveal a dark silky red, berries coming to life more and more and structurally the wine held up extremely well over the course of three hours. Was a delight to drink and taste the changing nature of this wine. Fortunate to have bought a bottle that had clearly been looked after - and with the original $4:50 price sticker still attached too. Delightful.

  • Negociants 2012 ICON Tasting (Zed451, Chicago IL): nose: very pungent and layered with tones of dark red cherries, roasted meats, spice tones, dark red berries and some perfumes.

taste: silky full body with medium+ acidity with polished tones of dark red cherries, spice tones, dark berries and roasted meats. Nice layering on the palate as well with very good depth.

overall: this was a real treat to have. Very well layered and just a wonderful wine on the whole.
