Robe de couleur rouge violace intense ... Nez sur les fruits et le cacao ... Tanins enveloppes, presque gras, et bonne acidite ... Les papilles detectent la prune, le cedre et le cacao ... Finale soutenue ...

Lush aromas of ripe plums, black cherries and currants are framed by delicious vanilla and toast notes. This lush black fruit is slowly beginning to take on somewhat of a baked fruit character which is underlined by coco and vanilla. These tannins are incredibly round and there is length here uncharacteristic of a $30 merlot.
Great bottle of vino!

Surprisingly tannic for it's vintage and varietal. I was expecting a softer mouthfeel with a bit more cali Merlot character - something that was a good stand alone sipper. Lots of sour cherries and oak were evident. Some would call this "well-structured" given the tannic character, but I simply found it too tart and a hint bitter. It was poor as a stand alone wine, but ended up pairing well with food, where the ample acid helped.

I was worried this one was heat damaged since I found a few drops dripping out of the cork in the middle of a very hot day. Initially on opening it had a kind of icky sort of funk to it and I thought it was definitely drain-pour due to heat. Gave it a few minutes, though, and the funk mostly went away, giving way to a surprisingly complex and interesting nose and palate. Not talking a multilayered wine for the ages, but a solid offering from Napa at a reasonable level of alcohol and fresh fruit flavours mixed with herbs and a bit of oak.

Dark garnet-tinged red. Nose of spicebox, leather, redwood forest, and some red/blue fruit, in there somewhere. Medium to full bodied, dry and herbal at first, then a piercing streak of bright red cherries, cranberries, good acid, solid tannins, and a smooth, medium to long finish. Structured, complex, and quite enjoyable.

Dark cherry on the nose. In the mouth very simple. Lacking some depth and structure. None the less it was still quite enjoyable. Smooth with a moderate finish.

I was hoping this was going to get better once it opened up. It didn't. I found it to be very bitter. We were a bit disappointed in this Raymond, which we normally like. We hope the next bottle is better as we bought a whole case.

Enjoyed a glass at Bimini's Steakhouse (at the Peppermill in Reno, NV): Beautiful dark-garnet color with hint or purple. Aroma is bright, fruit with slight heat -- had difficulty picking exact aromas (probably due to the dry air's effect on my sinus cavity), but it was pleasant. The flavor mirrors the nose -- got some pomegranate at first; taste gives way to a smooth, lingering, medium finish, enough to coat the mouth (almost silky, but not quite). After it was in the glass for awhile (30minutes, maybe?), I began to pick up on some distinct aromas of brown sugar or caramelized sugar - subtle, but noticeable. The taste picked up on this as well with a hint of sweetness; it was not sweet, but had a nice sweet edge to the overall taste - robust flavors. Almost hate to find out how much this costs per bottle, as I would definitely like some more of this.

Mineral on the nose. Fruit-forward but still tannic. Dries the mouth a bit. Excellent with salty food.

Consistent with prior note. Red fruit was more prominent this time. Good, simple, and easy drinking.

This is an o.k. Merlot but, as others have mentioned, we also thought it to be way too bitter.

Cherry nose, creamy mouth feel. Lots of lactic action, firm tannins on the back end; long finish, a little bitterness. Nice value, tasty.
