  • Lemon, citrus, passion fruit, peach, minerals, exotic fruits. On tongue; strong, good concentration, feels even more alcoholic than 13,5. Very nice slight bitterness, lemon, lime and exotic fruits. A bit lacking the elegance from a classy Bourgogne but indeed a very good wine. Could be kept for a few more years, still very good fruit but likely lost a bit of initial acidity.

  • This is a monumental wine. Mid-gold in colour with a fantastically expressive nose of pineapple, white peach and toasted brioche. Medium-full weight, concentrated tropical flavours and enormous depth. Good length that lasts for 30 seconds. In size and weight this is the equivalent of a Batard Montrachet. With hindsight I am beginning to wonder whether my score is a little conservative, but being a New World wine it doesn't quite have the minerality, focus and precision of a top class Grand Cru Burgundy. However, this is an awful lot of wine for relatively little money (£20). A must for any Chardonnay lover and especially for those on a budget because it doesn't get much better than this. Estimated maturity: 2010-2015

  • As with the last bottle, this is an exquisite Chardonnay. Peach, citrus, spice and a hint of vanilla w/minerals & perfect acidity. Age-worthy.

  • Exquisite Chardonnay. Peach, citrus & spice w/minerals & perfect acidity. Age-worthy - give it some time & it will reward even more.

We visited this property in October. Uva Mira is the highest elevation wine farm in Stellenbosch, just off False Bay in a landscape reminiscent of Carneros.
