I enjoyed this bottle, undecanted, with my friend Tyler, after he walked down the street to my house. I found this bottle in my cellar, and thought "why not". I have never had a bottle of petite syrah this old, and did not have high expectations. I have to say, I was very surprised. No bricking or fading on the palate. The nose was inviting, and the mid-palate was very enjoyable. I was probably more focused on my conversation with Tyler, and with switching back and forth between the Turley and the 2006 Sine Qua Non rose, I didn't spend a lot of time analyzing the notes. Dark berries, herbs, maybe cassis. Very balanced and easy to drink. The SQN rose was better than expected as well. A big night for old wines!

Hmmm, very interesting. C: Very dark no no fading or bricking. N: Dark earthy fruit, tar, black cherry and dried herbs. P: Very compact and intense, this definitely needed a decant to open. The first and most noticeable was the sour cherry on the palate, which was quite pronounced. Dark fruit, earth and dried bay leaf. With time, this softened and became very nice. Medium body and high acidity. F: Medium with more of the aforementioned flavors from the palate. While I don't see this getting better with time, it seemed quite young and fresh with no signs of falling apart, even after 3 hours. The cork was surprisingly short, but in perfect condition with no running.

Drank over 3 hours. I actually really liked this and am normally not into giant CA wines. Great concentrated ripe black fruit with pepper and licorice. The finish was a little short and the wine a little narrow, but it was wonderfully integrated, nice balance and texture. If I had had this several years ago, I probably would have been concerned about its aging potential, but this is evolving nicely.

BBQ for Friends (Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand): Monolithic and dense with a mouth-filling structure. Certainly is a PS! At 11 years of age, this wine is not hinting at developing further complexity but nor does it suggest that it will fall over any time in the next decade or two... Dark blackberry and boysenberry with fresh ground black pepper. A fun wine to drink but showed its lack of finesse when tasted directly after the 1992 Chapoutier Le Pavillon...

Decanted over 3 hours and drank during the process....starts off tannic and leathery in the front and floral/fruity in the rear....then changes half a dozen times between tannins, leather, blueberries...never really comes together or shows much range or depth. weird.

Initially closed but openned after about 30 minutes to delicious ripe blackberry fruit with peppery, licorice, and earthy flavors, finish a little short

At Deb's, with Turkish food. Opens rather quicky to blackberry, earth and coffee grounds on the palate, juicy acidity and rugged, dusty tannins that seem to be softening nicey. I'm used to hearing that Turley Petites need decades to come around, but here we have smooth dark fruit, a giving palate and approachabe, dusty tannins. The palate is generous, not tart nor backward. With some air, the palate takes on a creamy mouthfeel which I guess is the textural aspect of the oak (but the wine is not otherwise oaky), but that is balanced against the juicy acidity. Overall, an enjoyable wine, if not overly complex.

Dinner at Steve & Barb's house. Deep, dark purple in the glass, this very full bodied wine is not one for the timid! Big and rich with dark berries and lots of tannins yet it is surprisingly easy to drink today. A little VA but not offputting. The finish is quite long where the chalky/gritty tannins really take center stage. Not the wine I'd like with dinner every night but really enjoyable tonight. 50+12+12+8+8 = 90+

Dusty red fruit flavors also showing some orange zest and black pepper. Finishes with chalky earth and a slightly bitter aftertaste. Somewhat unbalanced overall. Minimal complexity.

had with Easter dinner at Deanna’s. Surprisingly acidic and not hugely fruity. Got better with a little air, but wouldn’t have picked it as a turley in a blind tasting. Not sure I would have picked it as a petite sirah, either.Tannins on the finish had me

Tasting note from memory, tried last month. I didn’t think the Turley really opened up fr me, impression was that it was a good wine, but far from a great one.

Strong tannins and a burst of cherries. Eat with grilled meat.

Pleasant, but not the blockbuster other Turley PS often are. Not bad considering the release price.

not memorable. Held up well enough, but some of the things we like a out big petit sirahs were lost with time.

Decanted for 2 hours. Deep fruit on the nose. Very big on the palate with a nice lingering finish. Seems to be in a really good place now.

Nose of blackberry pie and mint. Chalky, tanin, tart black fruit in the mouth. Fruit a bit thin for the structure of the wine.
