A private lunch (Restaurant Tennerhof, Kitzbühel, Austriia): Rich and youthful appearance, deep ruby with a purple core, slight browning at the edges; deep and velvety nose, fleshy fruit (blackcurrants, ripe red berries) and barrique, spices and minerals, lovely freshness, really first-rate; the palate is rich and juicy but energetic and refreshing, with just that hint of tightness that is so typical for Blaufränkisch, seamless structure, nice hint of chocolate in the flavours; very good length. Really surprising quality from a producer with very little international renown.

Excellent Blaufränkisch with a heavy dose of spicy oak, whisky flavors, caramel and licorice, fine cherry fruit and some apricot flavors, silky tannins and good length. Some heat on the finish though. Well handled fruit and extraction but a bit heavy on the oak. Still an excellent wine and should drink well for several years yet. - 90 points

Wine tasting Blaufränkisch Burgenland 2006 (Home): Magnum. Dark red with a water rim. Red and dark berries in the nose, some spices. Intensive mouthfeel, also fresh (mint), long aftertaste. Shows international modern style, smooth, maybe too smooth. Still wonderful to drink, a real crowd pleaser.

The fruit has given way to the refined notes of a ripe Burgundy: roasted hazelnuts, cumin and cardamom, also dried plums and apricots. Found this profoundly interesting, since I had never had a really good Blaufränkisch before. No need to wait.
