couldn't quite get Ah-so to work, but cork fell in 1 piece, and easily strained out while decanting. Color is still fairly rich garnet, minimal bricking. Mild barnyard nose. Tasted old, but quite good, still some fruit. Held up to steaks nicely. Has more years.

Surprisingly delightful. Light red color. Soft, and smooth, good structure with mild tannin. Opened up nicely in the decanter. Earthy nose. Red fruit, with oak, leather and cassis. Definitely use a Duran if you have one.

Was about to use the duran but the cork elevated as I removed the capsule. It was like sorcery! Immediately, I thought secondary fermentation in-bottle. Gone! But surprise, surprise, not a sign of VA or heat damage. Yes, this is past its prime but it is so drinkable, it's a bit scarry. Medium garnet in color with very little bricking around the edge. Some dark fruit on the nose but mostly tertiary. Classic notes of mature bordeaux, leather, ashtray, tobacco leaf, mushroom, blood sausage and a bit of rusty nail. On the palate it is dry and lean, but amazingly there is more fruit than on the nose. Still a bit of sweetness at the core, tannins are fully resolved, acid is higher than in more modern Bordeaux, medium bodied wine. Great length on the finish for a bottle that started so poorly. Not the best bottle of Bordeaux I've had but a beautiful experience.

A real treat tonight. 1982 Chateau Coufran Haut Medoc. A great example of a lesser Chateau, which can be wonderful, in a great vintage, after 38 years in the.bottle. Although not a darling of the critics, this wine was elegant, fresh, with great balance, getting better, even after 2 hours in the decanter. The wine did recieve a silver medal in the Concurs General Agricole de Paris in 1984. With a boneless prime ribeye. Who needs to go out to dinner?

Perfect balance of old fruit and acidity, this wine was at the perfect age, IMO. I've had many old bordeaux bottles from the 80's, and this bottle is in my top 3. Really surprising from such an relatively inexpensive wine. All 4 people agreed, one of the best aged bottles ever.

Opened with no notice. cork in terrible shape, crumbling. Luckily, the wine seemed relatively unaffected. Signs of aging but not excessive. Fairly classic Medoc nose in old style with restrained fruit, tobacco and earthy nose; good balance in this lighter structured wine. It lacks a little in texture and length, but we shouldn't expect more from this appellation after 35 years. Finish is drying up, but overall it is still drinking nicely. Drink now. The death of this wine has been greatly exaggerated!! It improved by the second day in the decanter.

Way past its prime. Decanted and poured. First sips were very flat and watery tasting with no tannins at all. Wine did open up with time to reveal light fruits, tannins and acidity. Couldn't get the thought of weak Kool Aid out of my head. Probably a decent wine at one time but at least five years past its prime...probably longer.

Forgotten for over 20 years in my cellar. Level: high shoulder, cork in bad shape, nevertheless came out in one piece. Orage rim, but overall very acceptable colour for a 32 year old Haut Médoc. On the nose: pure tobacco, rather agreeable. Acidity prevails, no perceptible tannins, acceptable for immediate drinking but turns chemical after 15 minutes in the glass. Should have been drunk at least 10 years ago.

Never a wine I liked much, but have to admit this had very impressive color for a 31 year-old Bordeaux, likely in part due to the cepage. Cork in horrible shape and a slight mustiness made it not quite potable.

A little faded in color; mature sawdust nose with old cherry and oak. Short, tart, and dried up on the palate with pretty thin body. This just seemed tired to me but the provenenace was suspect.

Better than the prior bottle - more fruit than expected and still some faint tannin in the finish. Amazingly young for a cru bourgeois from 27 years ago, it has vibrant dark toned plummy fruit on the palate with some length on the aftertaste. Not complex on the nose or the palate, but still a tasty surprise. Price tag still on the bottle from the mid 80's - pretty darn good for $7.50.

a tasty drink, considering its age. Faded rose fruit nose and the body is holding up, even blooming a bit since the bottle was opened a few hours ago. Gentle leather and faded plums with moderate length and a touch of acidity on the finish. Moderate length. I wasn't sure it would be drinkable, but no reason to keep this one any longer.
