2001 Trefethen Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve: Retail $80. Initially waaaay too cold but reserved all the way through with black berry fruit sneaking its way in. After warming this is still full-on old world in style but well balanced and falls just short of gangbusters. Honestly, I was hoping for more but this was excellent. thedrunkencyclist.com

Trefethen was one of the first wine clubs I ever joined and it holds a special place in my heart. That is why I chose this to take to one of our favorite BYOBs for our anniversary dinner. Great nose of raspberry and mocha--great color and a fantastic food wine. Did not pop this too early, as the tannins are integrated. And all this crap does not matter since my wife loved it--and in the end, that is all that matters since I won a bunch of points. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

Had really been looking forward to drinking this bottle. Was a little disappointed for the money, but my fault for keeping too long. Bottle was solid, but unimpressive for a reserve bottle. Had decent nose, palate taste was the best part with typical Napa fruit, finish way too short and minerally.

Dense, inky purple with pink at the edges; pretty violet aromas followed by powerful red fruit, slight menthol; on the palate lots of big red fruit (plum, cherry), followed by meaty flavors. tannins/oak are there but not overwhelming. unusual and unusually complex evolution. Particularly llong finish.

Consumed as part of a high-end tasting where it was tasted blind. There were some comments that the wines were served a bit too warm, but not overly so. Dark purple in color, opaque, showing slight bricking. Nose consisted of cherry, and cedar, a bit oak-dominant at this point. Palate showed baked cherry and toasty oak. Dry, long finish with a nice tannic bite. IMO, this wine needs some more time in the bottle for the oak to resolve.

Very nice CA Cab. Drinking well now, but could certainly last. Lots of bright red fruit on nose and pallet. Buy more if can find. "Gift" from winemaker at Equinox seminar.

Still good, but getting very mellow and possibly just a little flabby.
