  • A Magdelaine vertical where we got it all wrong. The warmth of the vintage came through as it was fruity and almost sickly sweet on the nose, really ripe fruits on the palate, a big intense wine. I prefer these with some age although we did think it was quite good. We also thought it was left bank 2014 so oops again.

  • Candied cherry, a little short and lean on opening, it rounds out in fullness after a couple hours. Not nearly as “traditional” in this vintage as I would have imagined. Still remarkably good and built for the long haul.

This grows and expands on day 2. Gains a little leafy note, but red cherry is the major feature

  • This was somewhat disappointing given the vintage. Served blind and - with some doubt - guessed correctly to be right bank from a warm year. Decent merlot character but short of structure to tighten up this dark fruit. I am absolutely positive, that others will find greater pleasure in this than me, so I will stay away from this in the future.

  • huge bouquet of blackberry and raspberry ; very aromatic ; silky and smooth .. we like it very much and suspect like so many other 2009 will get better over the next 10 years
my wife thinks it is amazing and it should be rated 95

  • bright deep red color, a very ripe nose, cherries, aggressive array of red spectrum fruits, kirsch, on the palate a hint of warmth throughout at first where the 2010 has a small streak of it, ripe and sleek fruit, cherry liqueur, hints of bramble and violets, fine long finish, with time the wine came together nicely and the notes of warmth were largely absorbed into the overall structure, this will be a very ripe vintage for Magdelaine but the presence of floral and forest notes suggest there is not the same risk as with the 2010 of ideal long term development.

  • I won some more of this at auction, so I wanted a peak under the hood and I am glad I did. This is very 2009-- rich, ripe, deep, open and aromatic. Primary as hell still, but not closed. For an old school chateau like Magdelaine, this is wildly ripe and fruity, showing oodles of red cherry fruit and a floral, nearly lifted bouquet. Quite rounded in a merlot kinda way with plenty of glycerin. There's good structure and a refreshing bitterness, but for right now the acidity is just barely adequate and I get the smallest sensation of heat on the finish. Still, this is quite enjoyable now and I am confident that this baby fat will burn off and leave a ripe yet reserved beauty. I can imagine the '82 might have tasted like this when young. 92 pts today within upside.

Side Note: If the likes of Magdelaine shows like this in 2009, lord save us from the modern St. Emilions in 2009 which must be rocket fuel!

  • Excellent st emilion 1er. Ruby color, bouquet on the nose, with balanced earth and oak throughout.

  • Very young, extremely fruity nose. Tight sweet plum aroma. Some liquorice and gently, nutty oaky. Generous but lacking a bit of complexity.
Fullish, balanced, rich fruity palate. Sweet plum cake. Good, discrete BDX-character. Now balanced oakiness. Good depth but still too young. Better in 2019.

  • This wine comes with strong, fresh, abundant red fruit like raspberry and chocolate. It has almost no tannin which makes it has a smooth mouthfeel, tho a bit bitter in finish. An elegant, medium-to-light bodied wine which is enjoyable even from now

  • Some wines of Jean Pierre Moueix stable with Stephane Laborie (JPM) (Caveau Wines & Bar): The 2009 Château Magdelaine is medium(-) purple in colour with a slight ruby rim. Superb sweet notes of dark raspberries, backed up by a woody structure, wool, gravel and underlying playful liquorice on the nose. On the palate, an entry of gravel and clean fresh mint which makes the attack pretty refreshing and invigorating. Quite an elegant palate character with underlying noticeable fruits of purple berries and cherries and undeniable noticeable oakiness.

Nice medium finish with a good focus. Rather layered and fresh with good fruit purity. Nice layers of flavours, a little more than pleasant indeed. (89-90)

  • 2009 Bordeaux Masterclass, Hilton Hotel, Sydney. Tasted blind. Inky red/purple. Plum pudding, dark cherry - lovely nose. Medium to full bodied. Slight jamminess ?raisiny character, but with good black fruit to show. Soft, elegant tannins and long finish.

  • 2009 Magdelaine opens with minerals, dark raspberries, chocolate, and licorice aromas. The soft textured wine is medium bodied, and ends with dark berry and chocolate flavors. 89/91 Pts
