Solid Red Mtn Syrah. Needed some definite airtime to open up and smooth out. Huge wine, lots going on, and massive black fruit. Oak apparent but adds to the wine nicely. Good acid, still has many many years of development.

Good blackberry fruit, less pepper and earth than I recall from previous bottles. A touch too much acid as well. This took on tannins as it got more air. Good, but could be better with more age.

Initial opening shows expressions of tobacco, dark chocolate, leather, roasted nuts and clove. Dark berries and dark chocolate covered cherries. Well balanced overall.

With a rush of hedonism, this ‘dark of night’, tar-infused wine showed loads of winter herbs, sage and rosemary. It continued on with stacks of clay, earth, farm aromas and deep, dark toasted spiced fruit. Plenty of acidity and structure, this is a solid offering which required hours to open. Give this a few more years to tame. Drink 2015++

Perhaps a corked or bad bottle but very sour, acidity that was through the roof and dominated most of the palate and didn't balance out much with air time.

Nose is dark jammy fruit (possibly boysenberry), pipe tobacco, leather, vanilla, forest floor, and a touch of wet stone. Flavors are dark fruit (boysenberry and lingonberry), leather, tobacco, wood smoke, pepper, and vanilla. Well balanced, with smooth tannins. Flavors are intense, but not a fruit bomb. Very classy and quite enjoyable.

A friend and I tasted this at the Woodinville tasting room on 6/2/12. It had a very fragrant bouquet of smoked meat, barnyard, blackberry, blueberry, plum, pepper and spice aromas. The palate was dense ripe and dry with flavors of blackberry, black cherry, plum, pepper and spice. 89+

Leather, dk chocolate, tabacco, plum. Black pepper spice. A little hot/alcohol up front, but long raspberry finish. Cherry Mid palate. Elegant, silky texture.

Another blockbuster from Obelisco. dynamic wine making skills as this Syrah is up there with their Cab, Merlot offerings. The 2008 Syrah is significantly more powerful than the 2009. Redolent nose is heavy and intense with notes of heady cassis, anise, and baking spices. Very dense on palate with layers and layers of concentrated cassis fruit with fine tannin structure.

Woodinville Wine Tasting (Woodinville, WA): First wine in the lineup, paired with mushroom bruschetta. Lots of cherry fruit, licorice, and some pepper. Very young, but there is serious potential here.

Heady perfume of ripe black plums. Deep, well-integrated, with smooth but strong tannin and a medium-long finish. Throws a fine sediment.

Nice wine, very nice if you figure in the price. Balanced with dark fruit on the nose and oak on the finish.

Decanted 2 hours. HUGE wine, not much fruit, but with tons of umami, earth and pepper. Day 2 the fruit emerged and this drank very well. Great wine!
