Cellar cleaning of older "house wines" stored away in a corner and almost forgotten. Another bottle of this rather interesting Tuscan Sangiovese blend that has past zenith by now. This has dried up and feel like its singing on its final chorus. Not faulty, just tiered and less interesting than back in it's prime.

Nose shows herbs, fine oak wood, touch vanilla spice, fruit compote, and dry dust. Palate is cool with fine and juicy flirty fruit, a little dry & dusty earth & some wood is present. A fine Sangiovese in a modern style, a conversation wine. Nice with the Cab. Franc in this (about 20%)that adds the special herb spiciness that makes this wine interesting and to climb above average. Good stuff, well made. (88 – 90)

Consistent with previous bottle. Great mix of savory, tuscan flavors with dark, ripe red fruits. Good acid and tannin structure. Went quite well with assorted Italian dishes.

Popped and poured. Crimson color with great clarity in the glass. Signature tuscan nose of sour cherries, balsamic, roasted plum, a bit of sweet spices and cherry cough drop. Similar flavors on the palate with a strong umami factor but with lots of juicy red fruit. Medium+ to high acidity with medium sweet tannins. Very little oak detected on the nose or palate. Nice finish. Rockstar tuscan wine for $30.

A little hot on the nose, with some laurel, tar, rubber. Maybe not the most attractive/ intriguing. On the palette however, this was very elegant. Nice subtle acidity and well balanced. Medium length. Interesting wine. Good value for money.

As always, Il Sasso is such a nice and pleasant drinking wine. Lacking a bit of previous vintages phenomenal balanced fruitiness that is one of the reasons this wine is normally so lovely and flirty. (such as the really great 2006 for example!) Missing some of the Tuscan trademarks in this vintage. The vine consists of 70% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Franc & the remaining 10% is Merlot. Each varietal is vinified separately, and stored in French barriques before mixed and finally bottled after additional time in barrel. Still, very nice wine and has a good qpr. May be better with aditional cellar time. I hope so.

Lovely texture. Nice gentle acidity, lots of dark fruit, tannins well integrated. Wish we had more.
