  • Albino Memorial tasting. This Alzero combines the structure of 1988 with the spicy opulence of 1989. Radiant purple in colour, monumental structure, extremely concentrated and higher r.s. than the 1988.

Attack of cassis, violets and herbs, touch of pine nuts. Harmonious texture with ripe tannins and aromas of kirsch, plums & prunes, figs, anise, venison, dark chocolate and fudge with additional complex flavours of tea-like essences, nice subtlety and depth.
Youthful, almost oversized, but utterly convincing mouthfeel. Comes across as unevolved next to the 1989. Astonishing: that my glass of this monumental wine went down like liquified silk. Tremendous cork quality,14,5,% rel. alc.

  • Colore carico, ma non eccessivo. naso che gioca sulla finezza e non sulla spinta, con cenni alcolici, frutta rossa e blu, spezie orientali. Bocca super polposa, tabacco, mora dolce, finale lungo e pulito.

  • Honorary Quintarelli Tasting (Copenhagen): Huge deep nose with lots of sewer-style complexity and dark plums.
Powerful and quite sweet on the palate in an almost extreme way with plenty of overripe dark plum fruit but still with a massive wall of acidity and tannins. It is still extremely young but are starting to show a little age but in any case it is a wine that will keep for a very long time. But it is definitely in its peak drinking window and could merit a perfect score on some days!
It is simply an outstanding wine but it is certainly made with an unreal explosive character that could be too much for some people!
In any case this is to me an amazing wine that I never get tired of tasting.

  • tobacco, tobacco, tobacco, followed by mre tobacco. this wine took me back to sitting in a high school baseball field dug out during a game chewing levi garrett. im from texas so you may not understand...this wine is made in the amarone style so its big and brooding. high alcohol but not offensive. more dried fig than raisin, but still a little port like. in the competition this wine got blown away, but with that said, we all managed to see this wine for what it is, and it's a very special wine that i would love to try again with present company excluded. this wine is VERY young even at 21 years of age. i probably will find at least two more and not touch them for another 10-20 years. VERY fun wine.

  • Alzero + misc (Terkels place): Potent and fruity nose with plenty of "warm" dark plums but still with some complexity.
The nose is showing plenty of lavender, black pepper and a lot of other different spices, mostly rosemary.
What a wild palate.. It is simply packed with flavors and impressions. Almost concentrated dark plum fruit that is quite sweet still.
It has an almost crazy intensity to it that just seems to vibrate. Some coffe and spicyness showing nicely in the very long aftertaste.
The fruit is much more tightly packed than the 88.
Extremely well made wine but perhaps to intense for some people but personally I just love this wine.
The wine is quite sweet but not in any kind of Recioto style or even in the way some Aussie/US wines can be almost extracted.
The sweetness does fit in with the intensity of the fruit and flavors and even if the wine can seem extreme I still consider it a quite well balanced wine!

What a treat to be able to taste this wine again... I simply adore it!

  • Mix of different Dal Forno and Quintarelli wines (My house): First impressions are simply: what an AMAZING and completely insane wine!!!!
A smell of immense proportions, cedar, tobacco and a lot of different spices. Many layers already in the nose!!
The taste is also almost insane... A lot of sweetness, raisins, vanilla, chocolate and pepper. The spices varies a lot in the mouth and it is definately a wine on its completely own level. Even though the sweetness dominates there is still a stringent acidity that binds everything nicely together. The length is also out of this world and lasts longer than any wine I have ever tasted. This wine should keep almost forever and is a true CULT wine. Not everybody will appreciate the sweetness but it is absolutely a unique wine... I simply love it...
The rating is perhaps overkill but I can't give anything else once a wine leaves me with watery eyes :-)

  • Strip steak and first corn of the season. A huge monster of a wine. Large, alcoholic nose with strong nose of cherries and dark fruit and chocolate. The palate is thick, dark, complex, tasting of dark fruits and cheracol, an old cough syrup flavor. Superb wine. The next morning the alcohol was much less evident but the palate was still rich, dark and very special.

  • A very difficult wine. Acidic body, waves of light sweetness and a brooding core. Well-matched with chocolate, a better match would be cheese. Elements of allspice, blackberries and leather as well.
