  • Every bit the classic. Very expressive nose, malty, hoppy and soft caramel. Lovely Palate presence, good depth of flavour and real understated quality here.

  • 6,5% alcohol. Brewed in 2016, best before 06/2019.

Slightly hazy straw-yellow color with a large and quite persistent white head. Pleasantly funky, slightly rustic and very attractive nose with complex aromas of leathery brett, some grainy malt, light sweeter notes of yellow stone fruits, a little bit of ripe orange, a hint of lemony marmalade and a touch of barnyard. The beer feels dry, quite full-bodied and somewhat funky on the palate with flavors of bretty leather, some grainy malt, a little bit of phenolic spice, light juicy notes of ripe orange and lemon and a hint of herbal hops. Although there's a hint of sweetness to the flavors, the taste retains a nice touch of tart tang. The hop bitterness grows slowly towards the aftertaste without ever taking the lead. The overall feel is enjoyably evolved without coming across old at all. The finish is long, complex and slightly funky with flavors of leather, some herbal bitterness, light grainy malt tones, a little bit of ripe orange, a hint of earth and a touch of phenolic spice.

Consistently a beautiful saison, hands down one of the best I know, if not the best. Although the beer feels somewhat evolved compared to my previous bottle (drunk more than 4 years ago), I'm not sure if this that much better - just different. However, the beer hasn't diminished in quality in any way, either. An excellent beer that never seems to disappoint. To me, this is a beer that's impossible not to love. Such a bargain at 5,40€ for a 0,75-liter bottle.

  • Excellent farmhouse beer with minerals and yeast, a bit more "smokey " compared to the Saison Biologique's more floral tone, and 1% alcohol more. At the brewery.

    Also tasted:
Saison Biologique: more floral, touch lighter, Really like this a lot.

Saison dry hopped: herbal floral pot notes that are intoxicating. love this! If Saison wanted to be an IPA.

Redor Pils: (Doré) excellent maltier pils, good balance, seasonable

Bierre de Miel: just what it sounds like. Not sweet but with honey nuances. honey added during hopping process.

Triomf: aged in whiskey barrels, really nice subtle barrel aged character.

Moinette Blonde: classic good stuff, like a triple, rich, fuller and packs a malty punch.

Moinette Brune: similar but with roasty notes.

Bon Voeux: bigger but still dry, 9%, just a hint sweet, dryer than I remember. Really good and balanced for such a big beer

  • It's been over a year and a half that bottle down in my wine fridge. Looking at my notes from then, the beer is smoother and more balanced, the funk seems to have subdued a bit. It reminds me more of a Belgian blonde now, but lots more fizzy. Delicious!

  • Expressive nose of citric and funky aromas. Medium bodied, dry and smooth, showing citrus, hoppy bitterness, some notes of wheat beer and funk. Great balance. What a treat!

  • 6,5% alcohol. Brewed in 2016, best before 06/2019.

Hazy yellow color of wheat fields with a very big, persistent and moderately frothy white head. Very expressive, characterful and a bit funky nose with aromas of grainy and slightly biscuity malt, sous-bois, some christmas spices, a little bit of orange-driven sweet citrus fruits, vague hint of yellow stone fruits and a touch of tart lemony fruit. The beer feels dry, fresh and rather light-bodied on the palate, yet with noticeable richness and nice softness to the mouthfeel, although the beer seems to be a bit on the tart side. There are complex flavors of spices, grainy malt, some earthy tones, light funky and dirty character, a little bit of Belgian yeast esters reminding me of yellow stone fruits and hints of hops, bringing in notes of dried grass and pithy grapefruit along with moderately noticeable bitterness. The carbonation feels pretty ample, yet the bubbles are very small and fine, making the mouthfeel smooth and creamy. The finish is moderately bitter with quite long flavors of grassy hops, earthy spices, a little bit of barnyard funk and a faint estery hint of stone fruits.

This is still one of the best saisons I've had, if not The Best. The balance, depth and complexity here is just otherworldly and the beer is just enough funky to be enormously captivating without being too overwhelming - just like in Orval. This is just perfect and there is really nothing I could ask for more in a saison. I still leave some room in the rating, if this beer happens to get even better with some bottle age. We'll see - I'm planning to cellar one of my 0,75 liter bottles for a few years more. At 5,40€ for a 0,75-liter bottle this beer is a steal.

  • 2016 bottling.
Bottle refermented, 6.5% Abv, Belgium 'farmhouse' style ale. Diam cork. You can cellar that beer.
Quality shines thru, you do feel like you are paying much less than you should.
Very yeasty, very foamy (need glass), very of everything, hops are present too, very balanced on maximum ;)
If you want to go on a taste trip, buy some.

  • Best before Oct/2017.

Cloudy yellow color with a big, firm and persistent white head. Aromatic and somewhat tart nose with aromas of fruity and spicy Belgian yeast and a little bit of some rustic farmhouse funk. Rich, expansive and ever-so-slightly tart on the palate with generous, prickly carbonation and flavors of lemony citrus fruits, bruised apples, some farmhouse funk, a little bit of fruity Belgian yeast character and a hint of hop bitterness. Crisp, funky and slightly tart finish with long, earthy flavors of barnyard, citrus fruits, some phenolic spice and a hint of leather.

A really lovely saison; one of my favorites - if not even The Best Saison I know. Although the beer isn't a sour ale, it is so dry with some wheaty tart character it comes across so crisp and tangy it almost feels slightly sour. That lovely, slightly funky farmhouse character makes the beer so very lovely - almost Orval-like, although not as heavily funky. Terrific drinkability and wonderful complexity both in one beer. I love it.
