  • similar to a barolo in many ways. made in an old world style, this wine has large grainy tannins, good acidity and is medium to full bodied with a little bricking around the edges. This wine took hours to open up as it was initially very closed. The nose opens with rose, red berries, and earthiness. on the palate, the wine expresses leather, mushrooms, forest floor, and hints of tar and balsamic (hence the barolo comparison) along with cherry and dark berries . On the whole I found this wine quite likable and interesting. It is definitely a food wine and was enjoyed with some cured meats and blue cheese. My one complaint is that the wine somehow lacked in balance. Maybe it was the 15% ABV. I couldn't help but think that this wine could have been made better had more attention been paid to detail. In some respects, the wine lacked the finesse of modern wine making techniques. For instance, the tannins were still rough and grainy. Finer tannins would have done a lot for this wine along with a lower ABV. That said, the wine was surprisingly enjoyable as it evolved beautifully over 4 hours.

  • A really big hot wine. Jammy fruit but hard to get past the alcohol. Opened bottle a few hours before drinking, probably would have benefitted from a vigorous decant.

  • dark purple color. Nose like a sherry/vermouth, high alcohol like a fortified wine with some oxidized/herbal flavors, I was stunned to find out that it was just a big still wine. Palate fruity with dark morello cherries and some of that herbal/honey-like character I associate with a vermouth. Overall enjoyable if polarizing. Enjoyable now with the proper mindset. 90 pts

  • 15% alcohol! Nice notes but took 1 hour to open up. Nothing fabulous.

  • Vinet har utvecklats en del sen förra gången vi drack det. Mogna toner av höstskog samsas med körsbärsfrukten, och vi upplever vinet mer burgundiskt utan någon störande eldighet.

  • Second bottle I've had of this, and compared to the first, somewhat surprising. The first one was pure, serious red fruit, with citruslike acidity, lovely chalky minerality, herbs, a tad kirsch and heat and nice licorice. Served slightly chilled it was wonderful, but the alcohol was noticeable if you didn't keep the temperature in check. Now, the colour gives signs of serious maturity and the fruit has mellowed (not in a bad way), there's more leather and funk, and the acidity is a little less pronounced. With time in the glass, all of a sudden, very serious tannins show up. It's still very good and very special, but this had changed much more than expected in just 15 months. The tannins suggest this still have a ways to go, but I think I'll drink up pretty quickly.

  • Better experience with this bottle. Amazing aromas. Ham and smoked cold cuts, leather, cherries... really nice in the mouth, long sandy tannins.

  • Calabretta Sicilia IGT: Massor av mogen frukt och mineraler. Fyllig, fruktig och en aning eldig utan att bli klumpig.
