Falcoeira 2016:

Even though the first months of the year were very wet, 2016 in Valdeorras was again characterized by heat and drought in summer. We began harvesting on September 16, starting in Falcoeira, our south facing gem. Falcoeira is always richer in style compared to our other single vineyard wines, and the 2016 vintage is particularly expressive and extremely balanced.

We are very proud of what our 2,75 hectares of Falcoeira represent. Falcoeira in the past has always been the most important vineyard of Santa Cruz, wide and perfectly exposed to the South. Asking the older vine growers about the best place in Valdeorras, they always pointed out this vineyard. When we went there, it didn’t exist and we had to reclaim and replant the almost 100 ancient terraces abandoned on these granitic, poor soils, shaped in an amazing amphitheatre around the Bibei river. Our efforts here are immense, as we wanted to recover this “Grand Cru” for the world. After more than 10 years of silent work, we are proud to share our first fruits with you.

This ancient vineyard hosts a mixture of traditional varieties that we selected from our very best vineyards: Mencia, Merenzao, Sousón, Godello, "Garnacha"...

Winemaking is simple. The grapes ferment in small wooden and stainless steel tanks and the wine is then gently aged in French foudres to preserve the "Atlantic" delicacy of this wine of inland Galicia.

2.643 bottles produced.
