bought this bottle back in 2010 and it was perfectly ready for action when i popped it open last night. deep cherry and currant aromatics — can tell that it's a pretty extracted juice, but it retains suavity... not over the top, not just a stuffed shirt. oak is well-integrated. chocolatey tannins. altogether, cabernet sauvignon that is typical in the best sense of the word. had with grilled flank steak and an inordinate of zucchini that my wife had grown.

wonderfully deep spicy aromas over more gentle sweet cherry notes; very expressive; a pleasant meaty funk arrived a few hours on, was quite welcome. fruit came through with purity and finesse on the palate. i was totally into it. wind gap has a new devotee in maine.

my concern that this would turn out to be a big sad boozy mess was put down after it got a couple hours in the decanter, letting it get up to temperature, revealing a solid gigondas in excellent fighting shape at 5 years of age. aromatically, it was none too showy, but enticing nonetheless; some spicy berries with nothing to prove. for me, it was all about the gulp: rich, mouth-filling, suave; subtle olive brine flavor coming from the syrah brought the grenache fruit to another level; classy tannins. i would've liked more herb, more earth, more funk, but as it was — and at $28 — i was pretty happy.
