Beautiful bottle. Broke a bit of the cork even with the Durand but managed to get it out without dropping any into the bottle. A bit of funk initially on the nose. Gorgeous color, clearly showing it’s age here, quite translucent. Luxardo cherries, overripe raspberries, tart currant, dried orange peel, wet tilled earth, leather/barnyard, mint, herbs and spices. 60+ second finish. Gorgeous structure and texture. Viscous mouthfeel despite the low alcohol and age, insanely well integrated tannins. Love this, want to buy more. I don’t get to drink a ton of wine with 25+ years of age but this is exactly the kind of ethereal experience I’m after even though it isn’t the most complex Musar I’ve had. There are no great wines, only great bottles. Given the known bottle variation issues here, this was a great one.

Not rating this bottle yet. A single glass, pop’n’pour, with the rest to be consumed tomorrow. But, this was just too interesting to not ask about. There is insane hazelnut in the bottle, right down to salinity and tannin suggesting that dry salty husk around the hazelnut. Honey, sea, orange blossom, rocks, and a smidge of tea - but all hiding behind hazelnut. Really subtle fruit to be found. I love it, super intriguing and tasty, but way different than the previous bottles I’ve had and the other notes suggesting tropical fruit. So what happened here? Is this just the wine maturing with age? Poor storage? Bottle variation? It doesn’t feel over the hill so I don’t think it’s that, but it just so different. Mostly putting this out there to get educated if anyone has thoughts to share. This wine is generally, I think, pretty different than the norm to begin with (but one of my personal faves) and this particular bottle was even more of a stretch beyond my experience but I’m fascinated.

Very rich style, absolutely delicious, but needs some time to come together. Previous vintages age very gracefully and this has a long life ahead. Overwhelmed a crab bisque and kale salad dinner but paired beautifully with a cheese course.
