Dark red fruit, sweet new leather predominate along with herb and spice. Howell Mtn wines are frequently aggressively tannic when young but the 2010 La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon has found a way to be generous and soft, and yet simultaneously intense and structured - likely benefiting from the small proportions of merlot (and petit verdot) blended into the final bottling. Another beautiful vintage of La Jota Cabernet.

This is huge, structured, intense, layered and spicey, showing great currant-driven sweetness and wonderful layers of texture and flavor. Over the next 5+ years I will remember to allow plenty of airtime and try this again with food. I expect this to evolve wonderfully, and if you want to drink it now, aerate and let it breathe for a few hours or overnight, or consider enjoying with something like cheese and/or cured meats to offset the tannin and allow the wine to show it’s potential. I would readily imagine this wine drinking well through the late 2030s. An elegant beast.

Beautifully presented, focused an fully integrating each layer on the palate. It shows a great zest and delicious apple components layered over lightly buttered toast. Mr Parker’s note hit this one right on the mark – brioche shows through, lifted wonderfully by bright acidity. Hints of baking spice dovetail with zesty acidity and fresh autumnal fruit to promise extended enjoyment.
