I had this at a well known Chicago steak house that happened to be serving the 1990 Yquem by the glass. The wine was classic d'Yquem, and was richly golden, consistent with age. On the nose, the wines aromas of honey and pear easily came through and the palate reinforced these flavors. After having a few other Sauternes recently, including Yquem (specifically 1998), that I was less pleased with, this wine was great to experience. I highly recommend this Yquem and you can drink this now or hold it in your cellar for many years to come.

  • 1997 Château Batailley

On the nose this wine had excellent hints of cedar, tobacco, and a quite earthy fragrance. On the palate, this Batailley had all the characteristics of the wines from Pauillac - quite tannic with a long finish which can seem a bit overwhelming due to the acidity.

Overall, I was very pleased with this wine. While it is certainly fully mature, there is no reason not to purchase and enjoy this wine for the next 1-3 years.
