Gentle but straightforward carmel on the nose, backed up by vanilla and all the red berry you'd expect. Burnt carmel almost overshadows the core of cassis and strawberry fruit. Noticeable heat and a bit of tin on the finish are my only complaints, and for $10, I'm happy to lap from Spain's wine lake.

Serve this just below room temperature. Slight vegetal notes on the nose, palette of straw, chalk, and a tiny bit of pear. Originally tasted after an hour in the fridge, this wine REALLY benefits from higher temps. Still nothing superb, but drinkable compared to a angular, bitter mess.

Just after opening the nose was gamey to the point of suggesting reduction, and either mellowed with oxidation or tasting into a quite pleasant little funkiness. Big, ripe strawberries dominate the palette, backed up by slight smoke and a hint of leather. Rich, round body. An absolute joy for half off $40, still worth it at full price.
