You're not going to read that I am an international wine judge or that I have spent my life in the family wine business. I am an average person who happens to be truly, madly and deeply in love with champagne. Like many people, I have always enjoyed champagne but never took it that seriously. It was my first trip to France's Champagne region in 2011 that changed everything. So it was probably inevitable that one day I would combine my love of this magnificent cuvee with my work as a professional writer. Following my 'enlightenment' after returning from France, I started keeping a champagne diary which has helped me to not only learn but to apply my knowledge to new experiences. I have since gone onto start my own blog - I hope that others will be inspired to start their own journeys. www.fortheloveofchampagne.blogspot.com

  • NV Bollinger Champagne Special Cuvée Brut

This review is based on a very fresh bottle of Special Cuvee - only two months after it was released to the market. I loved this champagne - such an improvement on the previous bottle I had. There is so much going on at once. The first thing I notice is its freshness, richness and liveliness of the palate. It's so mouth-watering and delicious, making me salivate for more! Dry with medium-high acidity, the cuvée is full-bodied but not in a heavy way. The fresh fruit flavours of lemon sorbet, white fruit and something green (not sure what) is very lifting. Notes of toasted almonds, brioche and young oak give it complexity and a lovely emerging creaminess. There is also a very slight saltiness to it but perhaps this is related to minerality. It leaves a wonderful silky lining to my mouth and a very long finish. Absolutely wonderful. See more of my review at www.fortheloveofhchampagne.blogspot.com

  • NV Ruinart Champagne Brut Rosé

The palate is led by a more savoury than sweet strawberry and clear lines of acidity from citrus, yet there is a wonderful softness to it. Minerality comes through beautifully, softened and restrained by lively fruitiness and slight creaminess - delicious. The cuvée is quite rich with good concentration of flavours leading to a medium-dry and long finish. I love the finish on this champagne. The medium-dryness allows the character of the strawberries to surface nicely. What is clear about this champagne is its sense of balance. Like the R de Ruinart, no one element dominates another. All of this makes it clever, delicious, fresh and expressive - a true delight. More tasting notes are available on my blog www.fortheloveofchampagne.blogspot.com

  • NV Taittinger Champagne Brut Réserve / La Française

The palate is led by citrus and stonefruits - like peach - with some spiciness. Flavours of fruit are very fresh and lively but also make me salivate with drizzled notes of honey, yeast and slight toastiness - indicative of the right amount of ageing. There is also good length on the finish. This is an elegant and fine champagne with good balance and precise flavours. Just lovely.
