Last of a three-pack. Both prior bottles were damaged and this was sitting on the "it'll likely suck" shelf.

Pulling cork and it splits in half. Wine about half-way up the cork, but seal intact. Pull the second part and the aroma leaps out of the bottle. I'm in luck.

Currants, leather and a hint of mint leap from the glass. Waves of currants, purple sweet tarts, leather and tobacco consume the palate. A mouth-filling finish with bright acidity and sweet tannins make this a pleasure to drink. A wonderfully italian version of a 2-decade old pomerol - the best of both worlds if you will.

  • 1998 Château Lynch-Bages

Superbowl wine, served with ribs and chicken. Nose reminiscent of barrel-aged blackberry brandy. The initial impression is a burst of sweet fruits - black currants and cherries define the palate of this wine, with some well integrated notes of tar and cedar and some bracing acidity. The wine starts very soft \and strengthens through the finish, revealing the remaining tannins. Nice wine - in a nice place. I think I'll drink my remaining bottle soon.

  • 2004 DuMOL Chardonnay Chloe

Pulled from the depths of the cellar to go alongside a dinner of salad and Cajun Shrimp. Almost effusive, lovely nose that reminds of Welch's White Grape Peach Juice and toasted cedar. Medium-weight chard that shows mouth-filling spice and fruit on the initial attack with nice acidity. The slightly hot finish leaves behind a good mouthful of oak.
