Though big wines like this aren't what I typically drink these days, this wine was really incredible and reminded me why I used to drink zins. Right from the PnP there was a prominent blueberry/red berry characteristic with vanilla and allspice follow and good acid backbone with a touch of tannin. Big and perhaps even jammy for sure, but not a fruit bomb because it was well balanced... more like an unapologetically fit and well dressed person; odd to see at the grocery but perfect for the red carpet. And so, it paired wonderfully with strip steak in herb butter and later with Rogue River Blue, but might be really terrible and out of place with pizza.

I 100% bought this wine out of curiousity to try a teinturier grape and a Georgian grape grown in Oregon. With that said, I tasted this wine without expectations of how it might taste and without knowledge of how it 'should' taste.
The initial taste is fleshy, like a very ripe plum or maybe some exotic red fruit that I can't place, then there is a mid palate of pretty grippy acid that follows through as the prominent taninc element finishes out the experience. It felt a bit disjointed, like the various big flavors and textures were zig-zagging aroud on my palate. I can't say that I like the wine, nor that I dislike the wine, but it did seem to improve over the 3 days I had it opened... which leads me to believe that a few years of age would benefit this wine. I will wait at least 2-3 years to open my second bottle.

Sorry, this is bad wine. No tannins, no acid, just kool-aid fruit and a lingering sweetness on the finish. I found this on deep discount at Costco ($12.00) and thought I'd give it a shot. I would not buy this again even at $4.00.
