A lovely bottle of Charmes. Lifted nose of bright red fruit which kept expanding after two hours in bottle. Fine mineral woven in between the fruit presenting as limestone dust. Extremely harmonious palate which the transitions between entry to mid to back palate are truly seamless. Impeccable balance and sleek structure. Truly beautiful, it is elegant and has just enough power to keep you interested till the last drop. Fascinating.

A classic, ageworthy version of the often bright and cheerful Montepulciano. The bottle I opened had significant brett but the group loved the complexity it added to the wine. I personally thought it was a little distracting having it as a clear top layer over the dark cherries, bright berry fruit as the underlying wine was really quite layered and structured. Will wait another 5 years for the other bottle.

Last bottle of two! Still alive, has plenty of dark fruits, iron, warm baking spice, pretty red cherries and raspberries on the nose fruit wise. Slight hints of fresh leather and roast meats staring to creep in but still miles away from being called tertiary. Has aged very gracefully compared with its younger sibling! At its peak, will likely hold here for at least another 5 years with a cool cellar.
