  • 2009 Château Féret-Lambert

The wine has become a little lighter over the last few years. It is now medium bodied. The bouquet is black fruit with some spice and earth. The earthy aspect has made this wine very enjoyable. Tannins are sure there but well balanced. Some mature flavors. Probably at the best it will be but in a cook cellar like mine, there is no issue for another few years. Reviewers here have expressed that this wine is over the hill or getting there. That isn’t my experience. It is doing very well a petit chateau wine from a great vintage should. Lovely wine for donating for use at an opera company event. My case was bought as wine future.

The cork came out perfectly. The wine decanted nicely with light sediment. The color shows a bit of tile on the edge. The wine is lighter than when it was young but the core is still deep and red. Color is good but shows a little sign of maturity. The bouquet is blackberry and some earth and clove and allspice. The taste is consistent with the bouquet. It is a medium quality mature wine. Very satisfying though lacking the quality of a big time mature Bordeaux. Bought at $14, 15 years later it is probably at the peak now. It has been stored impeccably since release.

I am shocked by how good this wine is. It is crisp and flavorful with notes of pepper, apples and stone fruit with a nice touch of minerals. It is an incredible value. Trade Joe’s did it again.

2/7/2017 9:30:00 AM - Nice to hear from you - it certainly does look like we have similar tastes. I've had only a few 64 clarets; the Latour on 2 occasions, the Mouton, Lynch, Pichon Lalande. The Latour was the best by a mile, though the first bottle (from the same cellar) was completely dead. Haut Brion and La Mission finished picking the day after the rain started, so I have high hopes for those two (I've got a bottle of each I will probably drink within the coming year). Looking forward to finding some well-kept right bank wines from 64. Let me know if you ever pass through Boston.
