No one seems to drink/write about Landmark Kastania Pinot Noir. I just opened a bottle of the 2001. It had a stunning, mind-blowing nose that screams "Burgundy" (I know I am going to get flamed for this ). It was ready to drink right out of the bottle. On the palate, it has layers upon layers of black and red fruits, earth, forest floor and minerality that you almost never find in an American Pinot. Beutifully integrated tannins - which you barely notice - and a finish that never quits.
It seems to be a close of the 1999 Girardin Charmes Chambertin I brought to the Baywolf OL earlier this year. The same explosive nose and and dense, pure, layered finish.
Parker gave it a 91 and I think it would rate much higher. Of the wines I have tasted, it is in the same league as the 1997 Marcassin Estate or the 2001 Brewer Clifton Melville. It most closely resembles the 1999 Girardin Charmes Chambertin.
And all of this for $23-27/bottle - still available if stores! What a QPR!

A bit cloyingly sweet. Decanting did not help much. Perhaps needs more time

Pretty flat. Seemed to be over the hill. Perhaps it was damaged by heat.
