  • 2019 Beau Vigne Cabernet Sauvignon Cult

Decanted, aerated, and drunk over 3 hours. Uniform dark ruby color. No sediment. Fragrant floral nose. Medium-bodied and moderately complex with dark fruit, plum, oak, and other tasty notes. Medium-length finish. Refreshing, a term I’ve never used before to describe a cabernet sauvignon. Blindfolded, this $30 (at Costco) wine could easily hold its own against wines costing much more. Very nice and a great value. Still young, it might be even better with bottle age.

  • 2017 Del Dotto Cabernet Sauvignon Cave Blend

I really wanted to like this wine. I let it breathe and then drank it over several hours. It has a nice, deep ruby color without any browning or sediment. However, you sense alcohol (15.2%) on the nose more than anything else. Straightforward flavors on the palate. Nothing nice stands out. Medicinal-like aftertaste. Short finish. Wasn’t corked and there wasn’t anything else to suggest I had a flawed bottle. If I were drinking this blindly, I would think it’s a cheap, mass-produced $10-15 wine. Sorry, but that’s my honest opinion of it, and I think my 85 rating is on the generous side.

  • 2018 Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon

Had 4 bottles (decanted and aerated) in the past few weeks. Consistent results: The 2018 Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon is enjoyable but somewhat disjointed and not as good as the 2016 vintage. Insofar as 2018 was such a great vintage quality and quantity-wise in Napa Valley, I’m a bit surprised.
