This is off-the-charts good. It has an earthy-smoky character reminiscent of Château Rayas or (perhaps even moreso) Château Fonsalette -- definitely Rhone-like, but with its own unique character. Drinking well now, but seems as age-worthy as the best Rhones -- so you can save it for your grandkids if you can resist the temptation to drink it before then. I quite literally could not find a single thing wrong with this wine -- hence the rating.

This is a real gem: deep purple color; the floral/berry nose is accented with oak-y vanilla but obscured a bit by the "heat" of the alcohol. Already very well-balanced, it will drink even better in 2-4 years when the alcohol is a bit more integrated. I am not very familiar with the Mencia grape used in this wine, but this wine offers a phenomenal smoothness and subtle richness reminiscent of St. Julien -- albeit in a very different package, and without as much sweetness. Definitely a wine-maker to watch.
