  • 2003 T-Vine Cellars "T" Red

Once again, typical T-Vine pour - jet black, and lots of sediment - As I have posted before, I am a big fan of the Greg Brown wines, and they always need a decantor. The 2003 was no exception. Didn't know what to think given the weaker vintage (although 2003 to me is much better than 2000, or 1998 in Cali - it's just rough around the edges). What a wine! Full, rich, cabernet fruit/vanilla/licorice flavors, and very thick and smooth, without noticable tannins. Very enjoyable to me, but maybe not for those who seek the tannic, long haul, Cali cabs. A little research showed me that the wine had 12% Carbono - undoubtedly the nuance that took the edge off. Should hold up for a few more years based on depth of flavor and mouth feel, but definately does not need to be aged any longer.

  • 2002 Karl Lawrence Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2002 Karl L was locked up tight after the initial splash into the decantor (lots of sediment - need strainer). Not much of a nose and a hint of the fruit core against the firm tannins. Over the next hour, the wine began to yield earthy cherries on the nose and plum flavors, with the tannins still puckering. At the 1.5 to 2 hr mark, the wine exploded - black cherry fruit and powerful anise on the nose, choclatey mid-palate, a fruit/choclate (slight hint of green olive) finish over the still present, but relenting tannins. Will hold my last two bottles until 2010, at least. This KL is built to last and still has some gas it the tank - Whooooooooo! Great Cali Cab!

  • 2004 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Bucher Vineyard

Had the WS Bucher last Sat. night. Was ready to go from the first pour, unlike the Ferrington (took 2-3 hours). Lot's of good stuff going on with the wine - fruit, earth, cola, very smooth and decent finish . However, by far the heaviest WS I have had. I assume this is what they mean when they say "Syrah-like" Pinot. Seems to have the weight to go a few years - hold if you can, but it will still be nice to drink if you can't!
