This one was very special. I had opened a previous bottle a few months ago and thougth it had to rest a bit yet (even though the charts tell you that these ones are peaking). I brought this bottle to a trip around the coast of Ecuador with my parents, inlaws and my wife. I had to put it in a cooler with ice so the intense heat of the trip doesnt ruin it. I had brought many bottles, but this one in particular we did not drink. So i brought it back home in order to drink it rather soon. For most of its life, it had been in my tiny cellar, in the highlands of Ecuador, naturally at the right temperature and humidity. I was afraid all the stress I had put on it during the trip would spoil it, so I though I must open it. I opened it today, alone, during lunch (my wife was gone to a charity event), to accompany a couple of outmeal and amaranto-based gorditas, stuffed with turkey and home-made, vegetarian chili that I had made. It was one of the most amazing wines I have ever tasted. On the nose was very Argentinian, cardbox, fresh rubber, canela, plums, cherry, of course oak on a fresh pour (so much that overwhelms the fruit), but nothing out of the ordinary. However, when tasting it, it was one of the most well balanced wins I've ever had. It is a malbec that got tamed (maybe the trip?). I would say it has medium acidity, medium body, the tannins are mild now but they still give the wine its character, the finish is smooth and very elegant. I have to say that it was still high in alcohol, so it can maybe endure a couple more years. A superb bottle all in all.
