  • 1998 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon

Palest yellow in color. Opened with soft nose, slightly citrus, pear. Big but soft palate ...green apple, soft citrus without being tart, faint hint of spice, toast all day long, bread-y, brioche, but not at all that (“pukey”) overly yeasty sensation. Lovely balance between the delicate fruit, the secondary flavors and the acid. Soft, very fine mousse and a gentle but really long finish with toast on the final exhale. So wonderful, enjoyable and worth the wait!

  • 2014 Ballard Lane Pinot Noir

Pretty and clear light garnet in color, almost slightly purplish. First sniff is dominated by alcohol, but there's also red fruit, candy-like aromas and a pleasant earthiness on the nose. The palate is another story. Undeniable sweetness, the kind of fake-fruit flavors you find in red licorice, Swedish fish & cough drops. It's heavy on toasty/smokey notes, but otherwise pretty simple. Would not buy again...I am almost always disappointed by low priced Pinots.

  • 2014 Liquidity Wines Pinot Noir

P & P...Clear garnet in color. Fairly typical Pinot Noir nose...raspberry, black raspberry, slight vanilla. Palate is reflective of nose... fruit forward, ?cranberry, in addition to the red & black raspberries, tart cherry, a bit of black tea, a little spice on the finish. A fair amount of alcohol on nose as well as palate; bottle lists 13.4%, seemingly a bit high for cool climate and making it somewhat out of balance. Vanilla on the finish becomes more prominent the longer its opened, a little surprising as the website lists new French oak at only 25%.
Overall, a very pleasant Okanagen PN, but no match for my personal gold standard, which is Foxtrot. However, the Liquidity is appx. half the price!
Paid $36 in Whistler while on holiday.
