  • 2003 Diamond Oaks Pinot Noir

I would have loved to have believed that the bottle was flawed, except we opened 3 and they were all equally terrible. I understand that WTSO's job is to move booze, but I would absolutely never offer this to someone in my house except to let them know a wine that I could not drink. Priced at $10/bottle, marked down from $25 (and I view WTSO prices skeptically, usually doing searches for wines I'm unfamiliar), I thought to myself, "Hey, if this drinks like $20 PN from Carneros, what could be wrong?". Apparently everything. I'm figuring out the best way to return this (these) bottle(s) and potentially just staying away from PN's lacking all-star status. I gave it a 70 because maybe it could be used for cooking without deteriorating a stew.

  • 2004 Kent Rasmussen Petit Verdot Esoterica

I opened the Petit Verdot up and gave it a great deal of time in the glass to open up. But it never felt like it moved beyond the structure of the wine. It felt like the base level of a blended wine. In terms of quality, it felt well crafted but, lacking any fruit or acidity. We ended up blending it with another kent rasmussen wine after waiting an hour or so to open up and was happily surprised by the combination.
