Just a hint of colour in the glass. Light fruity nose, confirmed on the palate, opening with delicate fruit, mid-length palate with just a hint of tannins with a delightfully crisp, clean finish. Not as boisterous or pushy as the generic NZ Sauv blanc style. A more delicate wine. Comparable to Sancerre, at a much better price. Perfectly timed at the height of summer.

Erl Happ was making delightful fortified wines in the port style until he went on a trip to Europe. Then he brought back cuttings of well over 20 different varieties including the classic varieties of Touriga Nacional etc.so that he could make "real port". This was frustrated by legislation, so the naming seems wrong. But that's OK, Fortis isn't Port, it's what Port would like to be.

Full garnet colour with moderate purple approaching the edge. Reasonable berry nose with early volatiles disappearing within a couple of minutes of opening. Fruit and tannins both light by Australian standards, but not fully integrated at 3 years of age. We loved this producer in 1979, so I might lay down a couple of bottles for a couple of years.
