Pulled the wine from my cellar in the morning and let it adjust to room temperature all day. Decanted it two hours before we even put a drop in the glass and it still took time to reach its full potential. The nose on this can only be described as elegant -- not bold or striking, but subtle and refined, with hints of musk, dark wood and dark berry. The wine was quite balanced by the end of the bottle, but even after two hours of decanting, the first sips lent themselves to a little punch from the tanins (stunning given its age and the fact that most would say this is approaching its prime).

We drank this wine after an evening of tasting (starting with Chablis and Chardonnay, Pinot and Cabs), so we were mellowed into the beauty of a complex wine from a fabulous winemaker. The only disappointment was the length of the finish. I'm not sure that age will cure this, but I felt the finish was shorter than expected from such a wine.

    Nevertheless, an extremely enjoyable drink!

With linquini and clam sauce, this was quite nice, although Lil's garlic overpowered it slightly.

There simply are not sufficient adjectives to do this bottle justice -- smooth, bold, but perfectly balanced; this was a cab drinker's heaven. I shared with J.C. Chen and others at Alexanders at my Father's Day dinner. What a treat!!
