For a 25 year old merlot I bought for $14.99, this surprised me when opened earlier this evening. Silky smooth, with light cherries and blueberries on the nose, with some smokey dark berries, chocolate, earthy notes with light tannins in the finish. Lovely with the hanger steak we cooked for dinner.

Opened, decanted, and immediately tasted. Nice, clear ruby color in the glass with no tanning on the edges. Nose a little musty but to be expected. Smooth and silky on the front and mid palate. Mid-long finish. Raspberries, cherries, and a hint of leather. Tasted an hour later. It's very 'thin' and light (no robust tannins left after 30 years), but still the flavor is pleasant and distinct. It will go nicely with the fish I am about to eat. I rated it 86, but this was an unexpected surprise for a wine from Plymouth CA, an hour ESE of Sacramento!

Very nice for it's age. Not much alcohol but smooth. Grapefruit and floral notes.
