  • NV Parxet Cava Cuvée 21

    Was given a bottle and ending up buying a case last year. Goes well with a variety of appetizers to start a party. If you have a gathering and some wine drinkers are less sophisticated than others all should still enjoy this sparkler with its small bubbles reminiscent of more expensive cremant and even true Champagne. After all, do you want to spend 3-5 times as much per bottle and half your crowd won't see any difference or may even find the sparkler too complex and the flavor too long on the palate.

  • 2008 Poseidon Vineyard Chardonnay

    Pleasant for quaffing but a bit heavy for delicate fish and poultry dishes. The typical California "zing" makes it more suitable for consumption with heavier hors doeurves made with chicken but be careful to test your pairing because this style of Chard can clash pretty easily. Acid is fairly well balanced but if you are used to white Burgundy or Australian Chardonnay you will probably still describe this California native as full bodied.

  • 1997 Les Domaine de Virginie Vin de Pays de l'Hérault

    Unless you are into European wines, especially from France, you may never have tasted Carignane grapes. This example starts with an astringent taste but fruit is definitely behind that. It comes across very clean without a long lingering finish. The clean taste and bright fruit coupled with tannins make it another perfect food wine that allows the food to be a partner with the wine. For Sunday dinner I am pairing it with a sirloin tip roast make it a crock pot with garlic inserted into the roast and the whole thing covered with organic beef broth and mushrooms. It seems like something similar to the peasant food of Provence is the ideal pairing for this wine although lamb is the favorite of my wine expert friend, Labe Mell. If you want to expand your pallet and extend your wine enjoyment experiment add a few bottles of Carignan of this quality. It cellars quite well with its artificial cork and this vintage probably has two more good years.
