Having bought direct from the producer on special release a couple of years back, and seen the price rise 5 fold, there was a certain concern about actually drinking it. How I wish I’d bought more. Toasty with the slightest hint of oxidation on the nose but once in the mouth those fears vanish. Very smooth and slightly round with a tiny hint of bubbles. Apples, marzipan. Long finish. What a treat.

Drinking spectacularly now. Rich, long. Tannins and oak are now very well integrated (addressing earlier reviews). Dark fruits with a touch of undergrowth on the nose, red fruits but warm and long on the palate. Still has legs but it is perfect right now.

Every review has mentioned the tannins. Well, they’re still there in a big way, 15 years on. The good news is that there still seems enough fruit that if the tannins soften there’s a great wine in there. But if you’re drinking it now you will need to decant this for some time to get the best out of it. This is opulent and rich - a fellow guest wanted to know which ‘Bordeaux’ we were drinking.
