At first nose, I was ready to dump the bottle or have a beer even... After about 30 minutes in the decanter the nose exploded into a beautiful and balanced wine, which is tough to find for something 40 years of age. There was a rough nose of hoisin sauce and shoe polish at first, but after that blew off, it was classic Merlot notes of eucalyptus, cocoa nib, and a touch of stewed bell pepper. Beautifully made wine that over performed!
