Paid closer attention given how nice the prior bottle was. Aromas of dark fruit (blackberry?) and damp forest floor. Very smooth, almost velvety texture backed by substantial structure. It tasted of dark fruit and noticeable but nicely integrated oak that wasn't too overbearing. I liked it best after just poured. With half an hour of air, it thins out slightly and the typical cab sauv green bell pepper flavor becomes perhaps a bit too prominent. Overall a really terrific value for a sub $10 wine, especially the first few minutes after first poured.

Clean, pure, smooth. This is not normally my preferred type of wine but the Costco price of <$8/bottle (purchased as a half case) tempted me, especially as I had a relative who I knew loved this style of wine. It doesn't change much with food, but it was really enjoyable to drink - had the taste profile of a lightly-oaked Cab, including the bell pepper flavor, but the texture of well-made Merlot.

This passively cellared bottle was ready to drink immediately, though it did evolve some over the next 45 minutes. I mangled the cork (hole through it), but it was intact so I pushed it into the wine.
Amazing texture. Each sip starts velvety, then chewy, then melts into silky texture with an ethereal finish. The wine was subtle so you had to really pay attention, but when you did, the finish was like a flower opening up it's pedals with silky feel and heady, floral scent.
The taste was mild red fruit at first with barely detectable gunflint, but with air the gunflint become more prominent.
Like other aged John Thomas wines I tried at a vertical 15 years ago, this is not the kind of wine that knocks you out with overpowering fruit and long finish bursting with complexity. It's all about elegance.
