This was shockingly good for a 40 year old Cabernet from Santa Ynez valley. Rich fruit with a long finish. Nice smoky overtones. Park of a mixed auction case that I had utterly no expectations for amd opened it just to sip on while we made dinner. 13.5% alcohol. Amazing when you come across a wine like this - unknown winemaker, average vintage, from an area not really known for Cabernet, produces a mind blowing wine.

A little closed for awhile but really blossomed over an hour in the bottle and lasted for a couple of hours easy. Deep fruit, nice nose, what more could you ask for. I think it was Steltzner fruit that went into the '74 Insignia, one of the best wines ever made in Napa, IMHO.

Didn't take detailed notes, but had at Fred's birthday dinner. Drank from a mag, still holding up well, good fruit, drink sooner rather than later especially from a 750.
