2008 Clos Saint Jean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

My last bottle was in 2015. Much too young then. Tannins were overpowering. This is brilliant now. Dark, dark fruit. Black plum and leather. A little soy sauce. Integrated tannins. Long finish. This has more years ahead of it, but it’s super tasty right now. Glad I waited for the second bottle. Tasted under Coravin, so I’ll enjoy for the next week or two.

2007 Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas La Louisiane

Stunning. Needs a little air on opening. But really pretty after an hour. This can go another 7-10 years. Tannins still prominent, but balanced. Dark fruit and herbal components play well together. This shows the best of what Gigondas can be. Lovely. Still has time, if you want to wait.

2015 Chêne Bleu Aliot

Moving into secondary flavors. Some honeyed apricot, but starting to show some beeswax and marzipan. Fruit is less pronounced, but secondary/tertiary flavors haven’t fully emerged. If you’re looking for Roussane fruit, it’s too late. If you’re waiting for more savory components, wait a little longer. Tasty, but stuck in a middle ground right now. Good texture — very silky. Game time call.
