Favorite region: Rhone (especially CDP), Piemonte & Napa
I had the opportunity to work off and on in Italy for over a year and France for 6 months. I spent a lot of time in Marche/Abruzzo in Italy (Montepulciano and Sangiovese are the big local grapes) and the Loire Valley in France. Unfortunatly the Loire valley is probably my least favorite region of France (Gamay kind of sucks & I'm not a huge Sauvignon Blanc fan) but the Chateau's were beautiful.
I started bringing a mixed case home every trip and started to build a nice little cellar. I used to watch a lot of Gary V's podcasts and I would then stop by the Wine Library on my way home from the airport and pick up another case or two. My peak cellar was about 175 bottles and now most of my wines are age worthy, so I'm in the process of rebuilding with a mix of keepers and short-term drinkers.

I think i missed the boat on this one, probably a little past its prime and a little heavier on anise than I like (personal preference). Drank with Thanksgiving dinner and my normal trinity of wine (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and CDP) with turkey, and this played second fiddle to the Pinot Noir. It lacked the pizzaz I was expecting and ended up being a little disappointing.

Not sure if there was something wrong with my wine chiller that affected my whites, but I opened this to replace a very dissapointing wine I opened earlier, unfortunately this didn't really seem much better. I barely drank it, and left most of it to my wife but for a $30 bottle this should have been much more enjoyable than what it was. Sorry to bring the overall rating down, but based on the 100 point scale here, I'm actually being generous with an 85.

Horribly disappointing; very hot, bitter and completely off balance. Opened it for Drink Your Wine Day and it couldn’t even enjoy it. It almost seemed like it needed to “open up” and allow some of the alcohol to burn off, but that wasn’t the case. It kind of gave me heartburn, yet I was determined to drink it because I didn’t want to waste an $18 bottle. I paired it with a VERY spicy sauce crabcake sauce to dilute the heat of the wine.
