  • 2020 La Mondianese Grignolino d'Asti

If I remember correctly, my first Grignolono and a rocking one. Beautiful garnet trending toward pink, with a tinge of red brick on the rim. 14.5 alcohol but well balanced. Red fruit and a hint of herbs on the nose (alcohol is noticeable here). Palate has sweet red fruit and a juicy texture, but enough acidity to balance. The alcohol pokes through a bit on the mid palate, with round tannins. The finish has sweet, slightly raisined fruit. Beautiful easy-drinking wine built on fruit and acidity.

  • 2022 Kellerei Bozen / Cantina Bolzano Alto Adige - Südtirol Hochkofler

My first Tirolano Riesling. Rather quiet nose that read as Riesling, lime and stone fruit, with a light mineral ring. The palate was rich and plush, with stone fruit and apples. Acidity and alcohol took over for the finish, and not altogether pleasantly, with the sudden acidity abutting an alcohol content that wasn’t contained by fruit or minerality. A lot of Riesling produced in the area still to taste, but not an outstanding first impression.

  • 2019 Jean Foillard Beaujolais-Villages

Immediate, scrumptious, beautiful presentation of good Gamay. The wine was all around intense, with a ton of fruit and earthiness, a hint of beet quality, and just the faintest whiff of the esters that lean towards banana. Acidity was gentle but present, with absolutely no tannic structure. Only complaint is that the wine tended to be a little short, although the finish was pretty.
