Same comment as last time. This wine needs a long time to breathe in the decanter. It is very close to being past its best - at least that has been the case for the last couple of bottles. To begin with it seems to be lacking body in as much as it doesn't seem to be'together'. After about an hour or so, it starts to resolve and all the elements come together to show it as it should be - almost. This is not a big body, full mouth wine at this point, more a beautiful fine old wine.
Drank at dinner with friends. Decanted and sat for about an hour. Spectacular. Rich, deep, strong full taste with lots of fruit but also a dark, smoky sense. Hard to stop drinking - I am going to miss this one!
I agree with Derek. We drank this on our first night in Florence with a delicious meal, beautiful evening, sitting outdoors. It was a waiter recommendation of a good value (Euro27) local, small production wine. We all liked it, but I did notice the unflattering aroma. It opened strong and was good right out of the bottle. As the meal wore on, the bouquet became more assertive and the wine began to droop a little. I think we shall experiment some more tomorrow.
