The last of my Lodali Lorens Barbera d'Alba 2014 was finished this evening. This wine has many wonderful memories for me and my family, so I'm thrilled to say drink it if you have it. I think this wine is at its peak, if not just rounding the top of its maturity.
The color is a medium garnet with tawny notes on the rim. It's aged well.
One the nose is cherry, spice and raspberry but once it's been decanted for an hour, or so, the vanilla becomes more fragrant and there is anise and herb.
One the palate the fruit hits mid-palate. There is no mistaking the sour cherry. The acidic level is medium+ and it causes the mouth to water. Overall, the balance and structure is good. The wine has aged well and the once bold tannins have softened considerably. The wine has a medium finish.
Overall, this wine is ready to drink and I don't think further cellaring will do much for development.
On to the 2015 vintage....

On the nose baking spice and red fruit fill the bowl. Then after a while subtle hints of sandlewood, earth, and leather come out to play.
On the palate the red fruit and spice are harmonious. There is med-full bodied and the mouth feel is terrific. Over the tongue cherry, wood, and earth. This has long silky finish. The tannins are so smooth.
This wine is drinkable now but will age for another 5 years or so. Nearly perfect $50 bottle.

I let this wine open an hour in the bottle then another hour decanted. We drank it over the next three hours and it finished like a champion.
The wine has fresh ripe spiced cherry on the nose. On the palate the spiced cherry and hint of ginger is complimented by black plum. The structure is nice and well balanced. A long aftertaste that has a slightly nutty finish.
This wine is still young and will be outstanding in 3-5 years.
At $60.00 a bottle this wine shines.
